My alarm clock was standing up in her crib this morning at 8, letting me know she was ready to begin her day...that's normal :) As I was passing by the glass door that opens to the patio, as usual, I looked out to where the nest is to see if any activity was going on. To my dismay, all 5 of the baby birds were on the cement patio looking lifeless and nearly covered by ants.
Baby girl wasn't having a fit so, I figured I had time to assess the sitch. I hadn't seen the momma or daddy birds in the nest for a day and a half at this point. I also remembered that yesterday, the birds were crowded to the front opening of the nest looking hungry and not moving much.
Well, I got onto the patio asap to check out the birds on the ground. They were all alive, and a few were being bothered by ants. No chirps but lots of squirming. These little birds are mostly skin and feather sticks so, no they weren't trying to fly.
I got a shoe box that I had some stuff for storage in, and placed them in there. I made up a thin batch of mixed grain cereal and two let me feed them using a medicine syringe. I was unsure about trying to get them back in the nest since the opening isn't that big. I knew it wouldn't be an easy task! I covered them with paper towels in the box and put the box one shelf below the nest. I was hoping momma or daddy bird would show up and figure it out!
Finally, daddy bird came back ... chirping and looking like he was wondering what had happened. I decided to try and put them back in the nest since it didn't look like he was figuring out where the babies were at. I tucked them each in the nest, as gently as possible, while trying to give them each space to not be in an awkward position ... that was easier said than done, but they all made it back in!
An hour or so later, daddy came back with a worm! I checked on the nest and it looks like the babies have moved around some and made themselves a little more comfortable. I sure hope these little guys make it! They chirped a bit when I was putting them in the nest so maybe that's a good sign??
I almost just closed this out but I heard adult wren chirps coming from outside! Momma and daddy are under the bush that outlines my patio grabbing up grubs for lunch and taking them back into the nest! I hope to continue having good news updates on the little ones ... and maybe I'll finally come up with a haiku too!
Can you help me out with a haiku? All this stuff happening this morning has my thoughts so scrambled! I'd like to create one based on the wrens. I thought it'd be fun to open the subject up to anyone who reads my post ... care to leave me a comment in haiku about my little wren family? I think it could be fun!
Thanks for reading!

Hmm, good idea for a twist on haiku. How about:
Featherless Bodies
Poor little birdies
Lying scattered on the ground
A mommy rescue
Daddy bird brings them
A worm then hunts for grubs
With mama helping
Thanks for stopping by and leaving me a comment. Hope your day bets less stressful.
Suddenly homeless
Scoop them up, tuck them in tight
Singing, "Rescue Me!"
Sorry, I'm bad at haiku! Reflected clouds at my place today -
