happy earth day

this photo was taken under the branches of my favorite tree, just outside my apt building ...

All the while growing up, I remember "earth day" being on my birthday, the 23rd of April. Well, somewhere down the line, "they" decided to change the date to the 22nd. Whatever! :)

I'm no hippy but, I'm not a wasteful idiot either. I recycle religiously, use products made from recycled products or as little packaging as possible, keep unnecessary lights off, keep appliances not being used unplugged, and even turn the water off while brushing my teeth. I barely drive...only when I really need to. DH just bought a motorcycle to save on gas ... and well, be a bad ass at the same time :)

I'm trying to go green for diapering also, by switching over to gDiapers for my baby girl. They're not as inexpensive as traditional toss away dipes so, I'm going to start off part-time and see how it goes. If you have a little one, take the time to check 'em out ... and be sure to watch the demo videos! I was blown away by how fast they break down in a compost pile. And even better, you don't have to feel badly about just tossing them in the garbage. They will barely last 100 days in a traditional garbage dump.

More from my green file today ...

Earth 911 is filled with ideas on how to make every day an earth day

If you aspire to be an avid recycler, but are intimidated by all the details. Check out recyclecity.com for help! A little tip from me: I shop once every few weeks at a "buy in bulk" store. On the way out we grab a few cardboard boxes to sort out purchases and them get home without having them scattered all around the car. I use those boxes as my recycle bins. The idea here is to eliminate the need to go out and purchase more *stuff*!

Kid chic from the courtneycourtney Etsy shop. These fab clothes are created from recycled and new materials.

It probably sounds a bit cliche these days but, I really am trying to make this a better world for my daughter, and everybody else's kid too. Plus, when I'm much much older, I really don't want to see the world dieing around me.

Happy Earth Day & Happy WW!!

One of the things I miss about living "up north" is the blossoming of the trees each spring. Down here in Florida, things are always blossoming, so spring is not so much of an event that way.

Mine is clouds today - Happy Earth Day!
