the dreaded lock

I'm having an adventure this weekend! Saturday morning, I'm traveling a little out of our area to a salon that is said to be the "authority" on dreadlocks in the Northern Virginia area.

I have fine, wavy, "white girl hair" (to quote my gf, Cookie). Instead of diving in and possibly being disappointed, I thought it better to see an "authority" to tell me if I have good enough hair to take the plunge in to dreadlocks.

I love my hair short. I've had tousled boy cuts before and looooved it. My husband, however, is not a fan of short hair. Sure I could do it but, I don't want to scare my partner away.

I love my long hair. But I'm also tired of the decision making process I go through every day after I wash it. Should I put it in big curlers to blow it out more, or do I lace it up in a "mommy-do"? (aka the pony tail or tousled bun) Do I pig tail or chop stick it? Aye-yi, the hair drama! :)

I adore and admire dreadlocks on both men and women. I like the idea of the commitment to the style also. It is a journey of sorts, and one that I hope I'm able to undertake for a long time ahead.

How fun! I've never done anything crazy with my hair, but I really want to.
