memories of babies, not mine

I am an avid reader of Cool Mom Picks (I've got an ultra cool button for them on my right sidebar there. See it? Yep, that's it!) Right now CMP is throwing an online baby shower for one of their own. How sweet! It's a wonderful world when folks from all over the planet and can get together from the far reaches of The Middle of No Where to virtually attend a party!

Well, this fabulous party is being sponsored by beau-coup.com, and they are offering presents for the "attendees"! So naturally, you know, "I'm in!". The rules are; post your own memory about the days when baby was new to the world. (And your eyes were extremely blood shot) The neat thing is, it doesn't have to be about your baby. I could seriously go on about Molly-Fae to strangers on the street but, this lil' contest prompted memories of the days when my twin goddaughters were fresh in this world.

Jessica and Samantha were born in 1988 to my BFF. Eight minutes apart, they each weighed about 6lbs...that's "chunky" for twins, isnt it? Anyway ... I can remember spending days and nights with their mom, helping her out. They weren't overly demanding, and they looked like bald little boys but, I was so proud to be their honorary aunt and godmother. (I still am) They slept straight thru the night, not to be shaken awake by the sounds of Mtv being cranked up too high when something we especially liked came on LOL I'd love to sneak into their room, cribs next to each other, and just watch them sleep. Even breaths, quiet little sighs. I'd pat their little baby butts and giggle at their bald heads. They were so small and dainty, and they've grown into beautiful women with their own apartments and careers, with aspirations for a bright future.

I look at them now and sometimes feel "olde" but, according to them, I'm still way cool. And that's what matters.

Thanks for letting me share my memory. Love you, my beautiful girls.

she's got a happy heiny

Don't misunderstand, I'm a full-on gMum. Baby girl wears gDiapers day in and day out. But once you get into g's, you enter into a whole other world of diapering.

You're introduced to fitteds, prefolds, flats (which may very well also be "prefolds"), different covers, pockets, AIO's (all-in-ones), AI2's (all-in-twos), hemp, jersey, fleece, cotton, velour (who knew that after the 70's this material was still made? LOL), terry, side snaps, rear snap, no-snaps, aplix tabs, velcro tabs, diaper pins, Snappis, and a host of so many other things associated with cloth diapering it would make your head spin!

Recently, I dove in to trying on other types of pocket diapers for size. The one pictured here is called a Happy Heiny. This is an older version of a pocket they still make but, the newer one has improved on a few areas. One area being a more reinforced thigh area to keep from wicking. Oh yeah, and there's also this "wicking" effect you learn about! Anyway ... with this older version of their sized cotton/poly pocket, you learn quickly that the inside of the diaper needs to be rolled in around the thighs to prevent leaks from wicking. That's kind of a pain in the ass but, on a scale from 1 thru 10, I give them a 8. With points only taken away for the previously mentioned issue. I've actually left these on Molly-Fae for 2 hours and not had a single issue. But, I won't go on errands with her in this older version of their pocket dipe.

Oh and, they are generous in size! I was pleasantly surprised to see just how much left around the waist there was after applying the tabs. We'll be using this one right to potty training!

WW ~ just cant stop taking pics of my girl!

Little girl and I are spending another week without daddy at home. He's in Woostah, MA (Worchester for those w/o the accent) till Sunday evening. To pass the time we've read quite a bit (we love to do that!), done some shopping (grocery and fun stuff like Target), and hit up a park or two. Come to think of it, I gotta get those park pics posted! (hmm...say that 10x real fast LOL)

She loves her pop-up and "action" movement books! Here she's enjoying a little light reading - Rumble In The Jungle

To soothe the savage toddler @ Safeway ... a cookie! This is definitely a special treat. If daddy only knew mom let her have one, he'd raise an eyebrow ;)
She's a very generous little girl. I have no idea what happened here to make her blink LOL But she offers her cookie to just about everyone in the store! She's good at sharing :)

no effin way, McCain/Palin

IF McCain ever stood a chance of winning my vote, all hopes of that were dashed when I learned that America's so-called "favorite Governor" favors what equates to murder of innocent animals by means of hunting them down by plane, in open spaces with no shelter for them to hide. Seriously, Sarah, what the fuck?

VP Nominee Sarin Palin: Animal Cruelty Made Policy In Alaska - Click here for the funniest movie of the week

It is a fact she cannot get away from that as governor, Sarah Palin has
  • Proposed paying a $150 bounty for the left foreleg of each dead wolf.

  • Approved a $400,000 state-funded propaganda campaign to promote aerial hunting.

  • Introduced legislation to make it even easier to use aircraft to hunt wolves and bears.

Bears??? Really, bears??? I'm no tree hugger and I understand animals sometimes make their way into human space in dangerous ways but this kind of legislation is simply displicable, completely disgusting, and deplorable.

I knew from the start that she "didn't speak to me" but I kept my hopes up. We are women so, perhaps something would spark in her words or deeds that would make me stand up and take notice. Well, it has actually. Not in a good way.

I'm a shooter. I'm not in favor of taking fire arms away from the people, so it's not that either. Words just can't express how dirty I feel after reading more and more about her.

And by the way, she is NOT "America's favorite Governor". Nobody knew who she was, outside of the Last Frontier till a few short weeks ago. Watch that hubris, honey. It doesn't match your shoes.

haiku friday

a yard for the dog
room for baby girl to run
our search is over

We've been searching since June for a new place to rent. Our lease is up in our current apartment on September 30th ... a we've been aching to get out of here for over a year! We didn't break our lease last year because we'd just had baby girl and moving would have been a major challenge at the time. We decided to give it one more year, and another good try at being happy here. There's a lot to like since it's a big unit for a 1 bedroom and all utilities are paid. But we have some big issues ...

-Cockroaches ... and you never know just how clean your neighbors are gonna be.
-I've been trying since May to get the drip in my sink fixed ... I even blogged about it! Remember that?? Yeah, it's still not fixed!
-The laundry room is disgusting. There are tenants in the building too lazy to take their garbage our to the compacter ... the assholes throw it in the laundry room garbage. It's even in the "rules" you're not supposed to do that.
-"Maintenance" never cleans the hallway anymore. Heck, all they do is wander around smoking or talking on their cell phones.
-So far (this time) we've gone 2 weeks without any "doggy bags" at the poo garbage for animal pick up ... and the poo garbage hasn't been changed out either.
-We have a few really nice neighbors but, we seem to get all the jerks moving in above us. I realize it's not going to be silent but to have people dropping cigarettes, food and beer bottles (that BREAK) on your patio and not apologize, clean up, or even acknowledge you when you ask them to be more careful ... screw it, we're done here.

We've found a gorgeous 2 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath with a finished basement, great little backyard with a deck, and hardwood in the kitchen ... amongst other things! I may be jumping the gun here but, we saw it last night and turned in our offer. We got them to agree to lower rent for an extended lease. All that's left now is the details! I'll be sure and post pictures when we start moving in on the 24th!
